1 SCOPE

This standard stipulates limits and measurement methods for the emission of visible pollutants from compression ignition (C.I.) engines for road vehicle use and from vehicles equipped with C.I. engine.
This standard is applicable to the emission of exhaust smoke from C.I. Engines, including the type approval of engines and the inspection of conformity of production, and from vehicles equipped with C.I. engines, including the approval of new vehicle types and the inspection of conformity of production, as well as the inspection of new vehicles and in-service vehicles.
This standard is also applicable to in-service vehicles manufactured in accordance with GB 14761.6-93 Emission standard for smoke at free acceleration from vehicle with diesel engine.
This standard is also applicable to light-duty vehicles equipped with C.I. engines, whose emission of pollutants complies with GB 18352.
This standard is not applicable to low-speed goods vehicles and tri-wheel vehicles.
